Cawley Commercial Real Estate Principal, Joshua Hearne, moderated the third discussion at Chicago Industrial Properties’ 16th annual Transportation and Logistics Conference on Friday, October 25.
The third and final discussion covered the investing and financing strategies affecting transportation and logistics space. The five panelists Hearne moderated were Daniel Barrins of Associated Bank; Rene Circ of GID; Reggie Greenwood of Chicago Southland Economic Development Corp.; Noel Liston of Darwin Realty; and Eric Pitcher of BNSF Railway Company.
Most of the conversation revolved around the issue of Cook County’s taxes and the new assessor, whose goal is to shift the property tax burden from residential to commercial real estate. While the panelists admitted the uncertainty and poor perception of this is unnerving, they ended on a positive note when the panelists agreed that the fundamentals are good enough here to keep attracting capital.
